Important changes to Centrelink payments

You may be entitled to paid parental leave or Newborn upfront payment. It can be a painful process but worth the perseverance. You may need a letter from your caseworker stating the child is on a permanent care order leading to adoption to receive the funds.

 NBS eligibility:

  • Child born on or after 1 March 2014 and entrusted to care of non-parent, e.g. foster care:
  • Child is under one year of age
  • Child remains their FTB child for 13 continuous weeks from date they become eligible for NBS.

NBU eligibility:

  • Child entrusted to care on or after 1 March 2014 as part of an adoption process:
  • Child (of any FTB child age) has been entrusted to care by an authorised party as part of an adoption process
  • Eligible for FTB Part A within 12 months of the date the child was entrusted to their care.
